I first noticed My Two Ladies knitting needles when I saw them on my friend Khamini’s Instagram feed. I thought they looked like a great idea, especially as someone who has always liked using straight needles more than circular needles. (I know, this is weird to most knitters, but what I can say? I just like straight needles!)

I couldn’t help but mention My Two Ladies knitting needles again here a couple weeks ago because I was so excited that she was promoted on @brooklynboyknits on Instagram. Alexis Mantone, the inventor of My Two Ladies knitting needles, sent me a free pair of size 6 knitting needles, and I thought it would be great fun to share with you what I thought of these needles and what they’re like to knit with. Although the product was a gift, all opinions in this review remain my own and I was in no way influenced by the company.

My Two Ladies Knitting Needles Review

My Two Ladies Knitting Needles are the ultimate rosewood straight needles. They have a long cord at the end with an end stopper. This makes them lighter than regular straight needles and gives them the ability to hold a lot more stitches. The end stopper is adjustable – so you don’t have to keep moving your stitches from the bottom of the needle toward the tip of your needle.

What I Loved:

My Two Ladies knitting needles are better than other wood needles I’ve used because they are slicker. These needles are treated with a special wax that helps the stitches move easily. I tend to like my needles sharp and metal, but these change everything.  If I can make shawls, and “flap” freely because I’m not using circular needles, I’m sold. Even though I love Chiagoo needles for their flexible cord, I had no idea how delightful it would be to not have to deal with a circular cord at all!

This is what my project looks like while knitting – all stitches are brought to the end of the needle with the end stopper in place.

I think these needles would be fun for every knitter to try. Even if you love circulars, these are so lightweight I think they could convert you. As a knitter who struggles with carpal tunnel, I loved the light feeling of these needles, and felt like I could knit longer with less pain than I feel with circulars or straights. The end stopper is also great so you can customize the length of the cord. I am knitting a shawl that is getting wider as I continue the pattern. It’s so nice to be able to adjust the end stopper as my project grows. Also, as a paranoid knitter, I liked being able to move the end stopper and my whole project to the end of one cord so I don’t accidentally lose stitches off the ends of my needles when in transit.

I’ve adjusted the end stopper so I can take a look at my shawl’s progress.

Not My Favorite:

My Two Ladies knitting needles aren’t the sharpest points. It looks like they’re leaning towards marketing these needles towards bulky yarn users – their sizes run from a  US size 4 to a US size 19 currently. When using these needles with bulky yarn on a large project, like a blanket, it would really take the weight off of your hands and wrists. (Check out the My Two Ladies video that shows a big blanket project here.) I don’t see myself using these needles for anything with too much intricate lace. The pattern I’m using with these needles, Surge by Lisa Mutch, requires larger needles while using fingering weight yarn. I found increasing and decreasing to work fine with these needles, but I don’t see it being great for lots of lace. The yarn would occasionally catch on the join from the needle to the cord. This got better over more use with the needles, but it wasn’t quite as smooth as other knitting needles I’ve used.

Should you try them?

If you love bulky yarn, or if you have hand/wrist issues while knitting, or you love straights, you absolutely have to give these knitting needles a try! They are beautiful and so fun to use. Buy and try these out at the My Two Ladies website.
